Pike Tickets

The Committee have been approached for a number of years by Pike anglers who would like to fish only during the winter months. we have therefore decided to trial the plan this winter.  from 1st October we will be offering Pike only tickets at a cost of £30.00 Sorry no concessions, this will allow only Pike angling at Norton Mere and Church pool only, all club rules must be adhered too.the tickets will run until 29th February 2012 A real bargain.

Swan Pit Essential Work

As anyone who fishes Swan Pit will know we have been having problems with the water level for a number of years, this year we have again had very little rain and the water is low and we are now looking at loosing fish during the winter months, to alleviate this problem Swan Pit will be closed to anglers from 1st October for 2 months to allow major works both extending and increasing the depth to be carried out.  we realise that this may inconvenience some members but what would you rather have an improved water or perhaps no Swan Pit at all.

Work Party

A work party is to take place at Church Pool on Tuesday 21st June 6.00pm.

Any member who would like to help out is invited, the last work party was posted on the gate but only Committee members turned up so please spread the word to other members and lets have a good turnout.

Many Thanks

Kevin

What A Day That Was

Tong Norton Mere Saturday 7th May 2011 a slight South Westerly is blowing its overcast and mild perfect conditions for a day on the wag.  out comes the Drennan 15' Ultra Light, Diawa reel loaded with 4lb line, 4 gram Crystal,2kb hook length and 18 hook and were ready to mix the groundbait. 6 kilos in total, Sonu Bait Green Crush, Black Amino, 2 kilo Brown Crumb plus a few extras 1 pint dead red maggots, 2 pints of soaked and prepared pigeon conditioner (you must soak for 8 hours and boil/simmer for 15 mins till soft), add honey/sugar 2 pints of Micro Pellets  and 2 tins of Yellow Peril.

I cast out the float about 1 1/2 to 2 rod lengths and spread 12 to 15 balls of groundbait in the area.  i miss the first 5 bites and then connect with my first fish a nice Bream of about 5ib, slowly the peg comes to life, the time is 7.30, a steady procession of Bream  follow until 12.0 when the swim dies on me.  my fishing partner Mick says how moz uch have you got"? i thought about 30 to 50b, he says  "you've got to give it to them" so i introduce another 10 balls of the mix.  the minutes later i'm catching again, I'm also loose feeding maggots, caster and hemp every put in.  About 4 o clock we call it a day, i've lost count of number of fish I've caught will i crack the 100ib barrier for the first time ever!

Mick gets his Carp scales out, unhooking mat and my large Carp triangular net to weigh and safely return the fish.  we weighj 2 fish on their own, 5lb 4oz and 6lb 6oz, we realise this will take too long.  the weights went as follows:

        16lb 08oz (3 fish)

        23lb 08on (4 fish)

        13lb 08oz  (3 fish)

        16lb 12oz (3 fish)

        13lb 06oz (3fish)

        18lb 10oz (4 fish)

        14lb 08oz (3 fish)

        09lb 10oz (2 fish)

I sat down on Johnny Lyndhurst's bench and started to count, suddenly i jumped up started to shout at the top of my voice and did a jig, Mick thought this quite funny; i still had three weights to add on.  i caught 27 Bream for a total of 138lb, what a day, it took over 30 years and by the way i caught them all on double red maggot and one on corn.

Get yourself down the Mere it's fishin its head off.

Tight lines

Bob Meddings.

Breaking Rules

The pot of Boilies on the left was found at The Church Pool.

We would like to remind all members that boilies are not allowed at any of our waters.

If you use them in other places please leave them at home, it stops the finger of suspicion pointing at you.

Any member found using boilies WILL lose their membership.

If the boilies in the photo belong to you and you want to claim them back contact the secretary or any committee member, you will then be invited to the next Committee meeting. (remember to bring your membership card with you)!
