20011/12 Newsletter

Dear Member

Welcome to another news letter.  The year is passing rather too quickly I know I’m getting older rather too quickly.  Last year has again been good for the club,

Mere and Church Pools fishing better than ever with waters giving record match weights.

Specimen fishing has also been good with the biggest Carp caught in the Mere at 31lb 03oz although there have been reliable reports of at least two others over 30lb.  The largest reported Grass Carp 18lb and Bream and Tench to 11lb

As many of you already know the club has a very good relationship with Rodbaston College: most of the pegs around our waters are down to work completed by students attending its Fishery Courses.  Rodbaston recently completed a test netting of the Church Pool, Tong from peg 24 through the bay.

·        One sweep of the net resulted in

o       One Pike of 25lb

o       Several low twenty pound Pike.

o       Lots of small Jacks.

o       Carp 3lb to 15lb.

o       About three and a half thousand Silver fish.

The students will also be converting peg 4 at Mere to a disabled Peg during the next term.

The club had to gain an emergency license to move fish from a stock pool after the water was drained to dredge the pool around 30000 Roach, Perch and Crucian Carp were taken out and stocked into Norton Mere.

The club was approached by one of its members who is in the RAF and fished for their team to see if we would allow them to hold the Inter Armed forces annual competition on the Mere We were pleased to be in a position to allow this and welcomed them during May when representatives from the Army, Air Force and Navy were drafted in from bases all over UK and Europe to fish three days of elimination rounds and the culminating final on the fourth day which was won by an Army member with 84lb of Bream. Every one I spoke during the event was very complimentary about the water, the condition of the fish and wished to thank members for any disruption the event may of caused them.

Following on from the Armed forces we were also asked by Jayne’s Tackle of Wellington who sell membership cards for us to hold an open match in aid of the Air Ambulance, again we were pleased to help and allowed the Church Pool to  be used free of charge. The resulting match raised £983.

Following the death of Mr Bill Corbett a life member of the club an open match is to be held in his memory. This year’s match will be held on Norton Mere Sept 18th. Tickets available from George Asbury 07792 516467

Club Tickets available from 1st Feb for existing members by post from the secretary. Please remember to include a self addressed envelope with your application, cheques should be made our to Weston Under Lizard Angling Club for the correct amount signed and dated.

Following relinquishing the two small pools at Wolseley Park and the stretch of the canal because when we kept a check on the numbers fishing it didn’t justify the rent we were able to keep subs the same as the previous year despite taking on the stretch of River Penk ay Congreve we lost the previous year because of the farm being sold.  This year though we will need to increase fees to help cover increases in costs and the recent VAT increase.

2011_12 prices will be as follows:

               Full                £80.00

               Concession    £50.00

               Junior              30.00

Subs Night will take place on the 23rd Feb 2011 for existing and new members to collect memberships, what an opportunity to talk with other members to find out the best tactics to use when visiting waters.  Tackle shops will be offering membership for new and existing members from the 1st March.

The next AGM will take place at the Bradford Arms 27th April, we would love to see as many members as possible as its your club which we as a Committee run on your behalf.

Please note that the number of the combination locks will be changed on the 1st March this year the new number is printed in your membership cards.

Finally I and the Committee would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and Tight Lines

Regards

Kevin Tunstall
