Church Pool
The pool is set in a shallow valley that runs between the M54 and the A41, entry to the pool is via a five bar gate off the A41 almost opposite Tong Church. The pool measures approximately 250/300 yards long and about 50 yards at its widest point, the depth of water varies from between 8-10 feet near the dam wall to the shallows adjacent to the entrance, the average depth would be between 3-5 feet down the middle channel.
This pool is the clubs match pool; it has a total of sixty-five fishable pegs, and contains a good head of fish. The record match weight from this pool is seventy-eight pounds; there have been many pleasure catches in excess of that. The main species are Mirror, Common, Grass and Crucian Carp, together with Bream, Roach, Perch and Tench. The majority of Mirror and Common Carp are in the 4-6lb bracket, the odd larger Carp can go into double figures, it is known that the Grass carp have been caught up to sixteen pounds in weight, but the pool contains fish in excess of that (see the photo gallery) Members are reminded that Carp above eight pounds MUST NOT be retained in keep nets.
Access to this venue is excellent with good parking at the lower end of the pool adjacent to the dam wall. On the poolside area adjacent to the car park, a large platform has been erected for the use of disabled anglers; please give consideration to these anglers during pleasure fishing sessions. Members are asked to park with care on the track ensuring that no obstruction is caused to other users; we do not have sole rights to this area.
